Some Poems

By Tom Koecke

I wanted to publish a few of my poems, but Hubpages said one was too short, and two others were duplicates. They are published elsewhere, but I still wanted them published here also.

Let's see if it works if I put them in one Hub.

Conflict

My nature, my will,
my conscience confronts.
Soldiers lie dead
stricken in spot.
Lightning crashes around!
Dangerous dark clouds
hinder lights of yore.
Funnels swoop down
to alter what was
with neither reason
nor rhyme.

Trail of Dreams

I ride for the
trail of dreams;
it must be just ahead.

I've often thought
that I was very close,
and at times I've been very sure.

But the hard road of life
is full of illusions.
What seems to be opportunity
is a mask for problems.

And people do things
to themselves
that they would not do to others.

For the sake of sanctimony
glorify it as gallant -
true martyrdom!

When the smoke clears
and reality is seen,
we find our opportunities
for what they are.

And we cannot change the truth.

Inner Struggles

Principled guards fidget again.
Conscience beckoned from deep within.
Natures coming into sight.
Is right best? Is best right?

Guards stay fast hiding fright,
No match they know for nature's might.
Conscience strength is what they need,
Or upon the guards, the beasts will feed.

Natures howl, growl, snarl and roar.
Guards uneasily await the more
From conscience napping in its nest.
Is best right? Is right best?

Comes forth a dim beam in the night:
Don't do what seems best; do what seems right.
But which is right, and which only best?
My natures confused, lie down for a rest.

Soldiers seek counsel to find what was meant.
Which would be right in the answer it sent?
"If rightful perceptions are for lust or for greed,
Then upon you, gallant soldiers, my natures will feed."

The first one brought visions of inner tornados to my mind! Wow, I really enjoyed reading them.. which is right and which is an illusion.. these I shall ponder for some time. thank you!

I'm pleased you both enjoyed the poems. I wish I could say I enjoyed writing them, but you can probably tell that each was written during times of grappling with myself between principles and natures. I also wish I could say that principles always won out, but, then, who would I be fooling?

Thanks for reading and commenting!

They are beautiful poems. I find a different truth in each. I can relate very well to "Inner Struggles". Thanks for sharing these!

Wow! I love the fact that you write poetry and that you let the public read it. Thanks! And thank you so mcuh for the comment. It really boosted my spirits. I was scared to say so much but it felt good to let those words off my chest.

Hi Minimoo! I have thought about you since I read your hubs. There is risk in writing things, but sometimes the katharsis is worth the risk.

I hope you find peace and opportunity, and I really hope to see you around writing hubs about how you successfully dealt with things!
